A peek at Chapter Four!

Chapter Four:
Feelings between Friends
That morning, I woke to a knock on my door. Yawning as I got out of bed, I quickly grabbed a pair of black and yellow basketball shorts then pulled them on. I walked to my door and opened it. Maitane was standing there holding a plate full of sausage, eggs, and a few slices of toast. My eyes widened as I gazed upon the heavily loaded plate. I held out my hands in acceptance. Maitane placed it in my hands. I told her thank you and she smiled. She made her way back down to the kitchen for her own breakfast. I took my plate to my desk beside the window and set it down. My mind flashed back to the previous night. I wondered why my friends had not texted me back. I sat down and picked at my food while I was deep in thought.
I was only deep in thought for a short moment when Darrel walked into my room. I had not noticed him at all while he stood behind me. He looked at me with a strange expression as I gazed into the world of nothingness. He began backing out cautiously. As soon as he got to my doorway, he bolted out.
“Mom! Floyd’s a zombie!” He yelled at the top of his lungs.
I snapped out of it and shot toward my door. I stood in the doorway as I watched Darrel run down the steps. I could not believe he referred to me as a zombie. Out of all things, why did it have to be a zombie? I don’t go around eating peoples’ brains and terrorizing the city. Well, I guess I couldn’t complain. A zombie was much cooler than a regular human. But, I think I’ll stick with being a lycanthrope. At least being what I am, all my senses are heightened. I can see further, smell better, run faster, and even jump higher at my own will. The only rules are I cannot tell anyone and I cannot expose myself in public. Both of which I have already broken, but I was forgiven.
I casually strolled down the stairs toward the kitchen. I could hear Darrel speaking about me being a zombie. An idea had occurred in my brilliant mind. An idea that I knew for sure Darrel was too dumb to figure out on his own. It was perfect since he thought I was a zombie. I held my arms slightly in front of myself and got my zombie stance perfected. Once perfected, I crept into the kitchen and began drooling. Darrel never saw what was coming. I placed a hand on his shoulder and groaned hauntingly in his ear. He jumped up and swung at me, but I dodge it. He proceeded to run away from me, heading to his room to hide. But, I gave chase after him. He screamed like a little girl and I enjoyed every second of it. His screams of terror were music to my ears as I fought to keep from laughing. Brenda, Aldrich, and Maitane were hysterically laughing at the table. Darrel tripped several times while running up the stairs. I crept hauntingly after him. He finally made it to room and slammed the door shut. I was approximately five feet away from his door when I heard him turn the lock frantically. I ran down the stairs laughing hard enough that I felt I could not breathe. I joined my family in the kitchen where we mocked Darrel about the so called “zombie attack” once he came out of hiding. I don’t think any of us had ever laughed so hard in our lives before that moment had happened.
After everything settled down again, I went up stairs to my heaping plate of food at my desk and sat down to eat. I picked my phone up from beside my plate on the desk. Checking for any possible missed messages I soon realized there were none. I put my phone down and continued eating. About thirty minutes later, I had finished my breakfast. So, I got ready to go to school for the day. I was eager to find the reason why my friends were avoiding me. I threw on a white tank and a black light weight jacket then left for school.
